Nasyam is the administration of medicated oils, powders, or juices through the nose. It is one of the Panchakarma (five cleansing therapies) and is considered the main treatment for diseases of the head and neck, since the nose is regarded as the “doorway to the head” (Nasa hi shirasо dvaram).
It is used to clear accumulated doshas (especially Kapha) from the head, sinuses, and throat region, and to nourish the sense organs and nervous system.
The medicine reaches the Shringataka marma (a vital point in the head), spreads to the eyes, ears, throat, and head, and removes vitiated doshas from the upper body.
